The simulator works today. The full course, its admin panel and its certificates open to the first agencies in late November 2026.

Humble Guest

Onboarding for new behavior technicians · home-based ABA · Colorado

New hires can make their mistakes here first, not in a family’s living room.

Make studying fun again.

Humble Guest is the whole onboarding course for new behavior technicians, from first login to the day a person at your agency clears them to work, with a practice home in every chapter.

Why the course drills the session note. In a federal audit of Colorado Medicaid ABA billing, 93 of 100 sampled client-months (one child, one month each) had notes or visit records that didn’t meet documentation requirements.

HHS Office of Inspector General, report A-09-24-02004, February 2026. Fee-for-service claims, 2022 to 2023. Public findings, not about any one agency. We have no outcome data yet.

Pairing with Leo, recorded in the simulator, no sound. Kneeling at his level, you join his play and hand him the bubbles. The Garcias are fictional.

The course

27 chapters on one street. Each one lights up when it’s done.

New hires start at your office and end there, where a person on your team clears them. In between: 27 short chapters, each with lessons, practice, a moment in the practice home and a check.

Tap any house to open its lessons. The track for new hires who are new to ABA: about 21 hours over 7 days.

How every chapter works

A lesson, practice, the practice home, then the check.

Real screens from the course’s first three chapters, at the size a new hire sees them.

  1. A short lesson

3 to 6 minutes, one idea per card, and something to do every card or two. Read-aloud on every card, and the text size is theirs to set.

The lesson player on a phone, chapter 1, card 2 of 4: An ordinary evening, turned up loud. The learner taps everyday sounds and bright lights, and a meter of how much is going on fills to 65 percent.
  2. Practice, where a miss explains itself

No stakes. Every miss explains itself: what it costs in the home, and where to review. Missed questions come back.

Practice on a phone, chapter 2, not scored: eight people share a two-bedroom apartment, and a corner of the kitchen floor is all the open space there is. The learner picked asking the family to keep everyone out of the kitchen; it is marked not this one, with why and a link to review.
  3. A moment in the practice home

Every chapter has one: a home scene on a phone, app practice in Tessava, or a home visit in 3D. In chapter 1, it’s a look around the Garcias’ living room and kitchen before the first visit.

A home scene on a phone, chapter 1, Meet the Garcias: a line drawing of the living room and the kitchen with numbered spots to tap. Three of seven found so far: Leo, Maria and Mateo.
  4. A 5-question check

4 right to pass. The result is shown by topic, each miss comes back with the right answer and why, and a retake is always new questions.

A chapter check result on a phone: Passed, 4 of 5, chapter 2 is open. A table by topic, then the one miss, with the learner’s answer and the right answer, each with why.

Closing out the visitChoose one
The session is over. Maria is making dinner, and the phone needs the parent’s signature. What do you do?

The practice home

One family, five home visits.

Leo, who is 5, his mother Maria and his brother Mateo. New hires meet them on their first visit and come back to the same home every time.

Walking up to Leo’s door, recorded in the simulator, no sound. First person, holding the work phone. The Garcias and their street are fictional.

Five home visits in 3D, each at the end of the chapter that teaches it.

On a laptop or desktop, in Chrome or Edge. Each visit takes under 30 minutes. Every spoken line is also on screen.

Tessava, the practice app

Every step of a visit, on the work phone.

Enter your PIN, open today’s visit and slide to start. Then record each trial as it happens, write the note, bill the minutes you worked, and hand the phone to the parent to sign first. Your agency’s own app may look different, and some steps may differ. The Colorado billing and documentation rules it practices do not.

In Tessava, the start and end times come from the swipe and can’t be edited in the app.

The debrief

After every visit, a debrief.

A score for each area of the visit against the pass mark, what went well, and what to fix, each with why it matters. A miss made during the visit shows the time it happened. Every step the coach does for them is counted and costs points. The Final Check-out has no coach.

A test run, not a result.

The simulator’s debrief for one of our test runs of Pairing with Leo: 38 percent, not yet, against an 80 percent pass mark. Check-in, the hygiene and safety scan, the start and EVV, and the preference check at 100 percent; pairing at 36 percent; chances to ask, data, wind-down and close-out at 0, because the run stopped there. What went well: a full check-in and an accurate preference check. What to fix: 11 items, starting with talking about his play, handing him his favorites for free, and joining his play.
One of our own test runs of Pairing with Leo, stopped on purpose after the preference check: 38%, not yet, against an 80% pass mark. It shows what the scoring checks.

Home scenes on a phone

The same homes, for the chapters done on a phone.

Rooms to explore, conversations that branch, timelines and an inbox, set in the same homes with the same people. Families who live outside the simulator are drawn as rooms in ink, and they speak only in words on the screen.

Meet the Garcias, a home scene on a phone: tap the seven things worth knowing in the living room and the kitchen.
Chapter 1: Meet the Garcias.
A first visit with Amara, a branching scene on a phone, moment 1 of 4: Amara opens the door and shoes are lined up on a mat. The learner chose to say hello, thank her, and ask whether to take their shoes off. What happens: Amara relaxes. Scored 2 of 2 for respect.
Chapter 2: a first visit with Amara.

Finals and certificates

A final for every course. A certificate for every pass.

Each course ends with its final. Each pass issues a certificate with your agency’s name on it, ready to print or save as a PDF.

For agencies

Your office: every new hire, every gate, every certificate.

Your agency owns the people and the decisions. Humble Guest owns the learning. This is the admin panel each agency gets, shown with a fictional demo agency.

People. Every new hire in one table: team, track, day of their window, chapters done, the next step and their laptop list. Above it, what needs a person today.

The admin panel’s People screen for the demo agency, Larkspur Lane ABA: 19 new hires in onboarding. A Needs you panel lists 11 items for a person, such as a certificate to check, a sign-off to record and a laptop day. For new hires

For people who never liked studying.

Here, learning comes from doing: short lessons, a home to practice in, and a street that fills with light. Mistakes cost a family nothing.

A card from chapter 1

Try a card. Then let it read to you.

Every card or two has something to do. On this one, tap each thing that fills Leo’s evening and watch the meter.

Read-aloud with captions, on every card, at launch. The device’s own voice reads the card in order, each sentence shows on screen as it is read, and it stops when you leave the card.

Nothing you tap is stored or sent. Read-aloud speaks only when you press it.

Straight answers

What owners and clinical directors ask.

Is it a certification?

No. Each certificate is a record of training. It is not a certification, and it does not replace the 40-hour RBT course. Humble Guest isn’t BACB-approved.

What results do you have?

None yet. No new hire has finished the course, so there is no outcome data. The first agencies start in late November 2026.

Does it replace our BCBA or shadowing?

No. Your BCBA still observes and signs off, and a person at your agency clears each new hire. The practice home is where a new hire can get it wrong safely, before a real visit.

Which rules does it teach?

Colorado Medicaid’s rules for home-based ABA (Health First Colorado). At setup, your agency confirms the training standards the course teaches, and each new hire signs your own policies. Other states and payers need their own rules first.

Is there client data in it?

No. The Garcias are fictional, and nothing in the course or the simulator asks for client information.

Do new hires need a laptop?

For the five home visits in 3D, yes: a laptop or desktop with Chrome or Edge. Everything else works on a phone.

What does it cost?

Ask about pricing.

We don’t advise on billing eligibility; your billing lead or counsel is the right person.
